Chapter 3 – Act Like a Person?

The first class of the new term, the old man moved the atmosphere, strange yet comical.

Just before the end of class, Zheng Hong finally mentioned the main point.

“In two days, the start-of-term exam. You little brats better save some face for me. Not comparing with the experimental class, but don’t let it be like last time, ranking last in a normal class. The homeroom teacher of the experimental class is waiting to watch the show.”

Li Shu’s peripheral vision caught Qiu Ning immediately sitting up straight. Without caring whether the old man could see, she nodded forcefully and seriously.

A person like that must be a top student.

As the class bell rang, Zheng Hong packed his things and was about to leave, but then remembered something.

He cleared his throat, animated:
“Right, in a few days new students will transfer here, all of you, pay attention, no sneaky business.”

His words stirred quite a wave.

Zheng Hong left with a smile, even humming a little tune. He had already seen the grades of the new students—rare talent indeed.

The key students being placed in his class made the experimental class teachers’ faces dark with displeasure.

All class rankings always pressured him, but this time he finally got an edge.

Once Zheng Hong left, the class completely erupted.

“Who is it? Look at the old man’s expression, this isn’t simple. Who is this new student?”

“Who cares? Definitely not the principal’s kid.”

“True. So why is the old man so pleased?”

Out of curiosity, Qiu Ning couldn’t help but glance at Li Shu:
“That was a bit strange, the old man’s expression just now looked like he hit the jackpot.”

Li Shu wasn’t paying attention. Because of Zheng Hong’s commotion, she was no longer sleepy and decided to go buy a new eraser at the store.

Hearing this, she paused for a moment, belatedly realizing Qiu Ning was talking to her.

“Not strange.” she replied softly.

Her voice, paired with her harmless fair face, made one speak more gently by instinct.

Qiu Ning: “Hm?”

Li Shu stood up, lazily saying:
“Maybe it’s menopause.”

After saying this, she bypassed Qiu Ning and headed to the back door. Just passing the last row, she smelled a pungent smoke.

No need to guess—it was the group of spoiled brats in the back.

“Could the new student be a girl? Just as Xiao Mei and I agreed, if it’s a pretty girl, she’s mine.”

Li Shu frowned slightly and quickened her steps. Just then, Jiang Yi, the leader of the applause group, stepped forward and threw a punch.

“Mind your words!”

Just like that, the class fell completely silent.

Li Shu slowly passed by and exited.

The spoiled brat, used to pride, dared not utter a sound, unable to challenge the Jiang family.

He could only force a smile:
“My bad, the girl of course goes to Jiang Shao.”

Jiang Yi crushed his cigarette, looking overbearingly at him:
“Idiot.”

Then strode off.

——

Li Shu browsed the supermarket, bought a bottle of yogurt, and walked back, sipping along the way.

Senior three was divided into two experimental classes and eight normal classes. Li Shu’s class was normal class seven.

Those who came to Fu Nan either had good grades or a wealthy family.

Li Shu was the latter.

To ensure peace for the senior students, the senior building was far from junior floors, standing alone.

Li Shu bypassed the playground, sweating in the heat. Her porcelain face looked weary, dragging her feet forward.

She followed the narrow path, needing to take the long corridor along the west side to reach the east side of the building.

Approaching, she saw the familiar yellow hair.

Seeing that hair, Li Shu recognized him.

She didn’t understand how the old man tolerated it, not letting him dye it back.

Jiang Yi leaned on the railing, dialing a phone. Finally connected, he wailed into the phone:
“Yan Ge, damn, I called you over ten times. Thought you were gone. If you didn’t pick up, I’d call the police.”

Hearing footsteps, he looked up and saw Li Shu, still grinning foolishly.

Everyone likes pretty girls. He flicked his yellow hair in what he thought was a suave gesture, then whistled.

“Hi, miss.”

Li Shu averted her gaze and didn’t detour for Jiang Yi. Drinking her yogurt, she passed him by without stopping.

The only response Jiang Yi got was the busy tone from the phone.

No time to argue with Li Shu, he hurriedly redialed.

First call hung up, second call hung up.

Finally, connected.

Anyone else would have smashed the phone, but the other end was his superior.

Jiang Yi held his breath, carefully asking:
“Yan Ge, haven’t woken up yet?”

Finally, there was a response.

Shen Yan, eyes closed, head throbbing. Just woke, then the deathly five-alarm ringtone woke him, in a bad mood, especially since the caller flirted.

“Jiang Yi.” His voice nasal.

“Hey, here.”

Shen Yan sat up, leaned for his glass on the nightstand, sipped water, and his side profile cold and hard:
“Looking for trouble?”

Jiang Yi shivered.

“Just excited, Yan Ge. You’re in city A, why didn’t you come to school today?”

Shen Yan rubbed his temples, wanted to curse, but restrained.

Transferring was more beneficial than harmful, and he actually preferred it.

He lazily replied:
“Catching up on sleep.”

Jiang Yi didn’t think much:
“Yan Ge, when do you register?”

Shen Yan, annoyed by noise, didn’t answer, asked back:
“When is the start-of-term exam?”

“The day after tomorrow, two days.”

Shen Yan made plans.

But Jiang Yi’s buzzing voice kept at it like a fly.

“Damn, knowing I’ll be in the same class as Yan Ge makes my blood boil.”

Shen Yan was amused, lazily pressing his tongue against his molars:
“Don’t, I’m not your type.”

Jiang Yi, teased, kicked small stones:
“Yan Ge, you’re awesome.”

He recalled the girl he passed earlier, Li Shu.

Ugly uniform, but still pretty. Big uniform couldn’t hide her curves.

White and soft, harmless, slightly curled hair—natural waves.

Jiang Yi: “So what was he doing before! Good girl, not pursued, just skipping school! What a waste!”

He held his chest: “Yan Ge, I think I’m falling in love.”

“The girl in our class, too cute. Something like Shu, nice name too.”

Even without knowing her full name, already thinking of chasing her? A total scumbag.

Shen Yan didn’t want to continue the topic, too lazy to waste words. Initially about to hang up, then remembered Jiang Yi could pair up with five or six ex-girlfriends for cards.

He flipped over, lying down, tone lazy and casual:
“She’s of age? Jiang Yi, act like a person.”
